Small creatures often attempt to settle themselves into our living spaces. Naturally, this is not something we want to ignore. In this article, we are going to talk about one such creature – bats. Bats can cause significant damage to our homes and pose a health risk to humans. So, how can you identify a bat problem in your home? Here are a few common indicators:

Squeaking and scratching noises. Listen out for squeaking and scratching noises in your walls and attics, especially around dusk and dawn hours.
Bat feces, or guano, can be mistaken for rodent feces. However, guano is often shiny and speckled in appearance due to the bat’s diet of insects. It is also easier to crush, which is not the same as rodent droppings.
Urine stains. Look out for milky white stains on windows and around cracks, entry holes, and crevices. These stains are from bat urine and are a good indicator that bats are present.
Unpleasant smells and stains. Bats can generate unpleasant smells and stains from their feces. If you notice a musty odor in your home or see stains on walls or ceilings, bats are likely present.

Dangers of a bat infestation. Bats can carry rabies, which can be fatal to humans. Avoid contact with bats and seek medical attention if you are bitten or scratched by a bat. Bat feces can also cause a respiratory disease called Histoplasma capsulatum. This disease is caused by a fungus that grows in bat droppings and can be dangerous to humans.

How to get rid of bats. If you think your home may be infested with bats, you should seek professional help. Bats are protected by law in most areas and can only be removed by licensed professionals.
